Antique Kurdish Suaj Bulag Rug - 4'5 x 8'4

4,500.00

This Suaj Bulag dates from the late 18th century/early 19th century and was woven by Kurds in NW Persia. The field is comprised of a classic herati pattern featuring masterfully dyed wool in beautiful soft blues, fresh mint greens with autumnal orange, aubergine and soft dusty pinks. It has a serrated leaf and tulip main border surrounded by similar patterned but distinctly colored minor borders. The rug has experienced heavy wear primarily due to oxidation of the browns which is very common of the type and age. There is some very old restoration that was properly done but whose dyes could not keep pace with the original expert work. Truly a prize piece.

Measures 4'5"x8'4".
