Vintage Ashfar Rug- 3'4 x 5

575.00

This Afshar was handwoven in Central Iran circa 1930. This is a finely woven example of Afshar weaving and likely originated from the Afshars who were forcibly resettled near Kerman. The large detailed birds in the field steal the show but on closer inspection a variety of other small protection symbols can be seen in the cornices. The rug is composed of rich reds, abrashed indigo, sage, and golden tones.  An original tag proudly proclaiming "Made in Persia" emblazons the back corner. The wool pile is worn, consistent with the age of the rug. Some wear on the edges, all pictured. Measures 3'4 x 5'.
