Heriz rug from Northwest Iran, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.
This classic Heriz features a geometric central medallion on a madder red ground. The four cornices mirror the design from the medallion in a different color combination. Indigo is used in all variations of the color, to great effect, along with the madder red already mentioned. Camel and ivory are used sparingly to emphasize details. The main border is composed of an intricate palmette design, while the minor borders feature floral meanders.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile with a sturdy handle.
