antique sarouk rug with curvilinear floral design on a raspberry red field and unique borders

Antique Sarouk Rug - 4'4 x 6'7

Regular price $785.00 Sale

Sarouk rug woven in the second quarter of the 20th century.

This rug features an intricate curvilinear floral design radiating out from the central bouquet. The field is a lush raspberry color, and has been "painted" as well, a typical technique used on Sarouk rugs of the era; over time the paint fades and gives a soft marbled look to the pile.

The borders of this rug are equally as intricate as the main design, and are unusual in that their designs cut into each other, almost like carved frames or cornices. Notice the exquisitely woven blossoms in the main border, with the deep indigo blue ground.

In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is low, handle is very sturdy.
