Art Deco rug, handwoven in Tietsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century. 

This stunning Deco rug features a pictorial scene rendered in magenta, pink, green, blue, and golden yellow on a soft lilac field. The design is open with a minimal border of blue, green and tan leaves. It is composed of a night scene with a pagoda amongst flowering trees and a full moon while a cloud of bats fly overhead. A single larger bat can be seen in the bottom left hand corner. Bats are considered very auspicious in Chinese culture and the word for bat "fu" is a homonym for happiness.

In very good condition, with some minor areas of old moth damage. Pile is medium height, soft and plush, with a dense and heavy handle.
