This Kazak prayer rug in the Caucasus during the late 19th century.

Features a bold red and blue color palette, with ivory, yellow, turquoise and aubergine as accent colors. The field area contains a pattern of a lattice containing geometric floral elements topped with a mihrab or prayer niche. A strong main border contains multicolored octagons containing triangles and rams horns. 

Wear is consistent with age, with some wear throughout, in particular towards the bottom of the mihrab, where the rug sustained the most use. Edges have been reinforced for longevity.
