Vintage Mahal handwoven during the third quarter of the 20th century in Western Iran.
This rug is composed of a 'garden' design with a large grid of interlocking boxes depicting different scenes of flora and fauna. A menagerie of birds, deer, wild cats, and flowering trees are depicted in indigo, brick, mauve, and turquoise.
In very good condition with some properly done and nearly invisible repairs to one box. Pile is thick but medium with a dense but malleable handle. Well suited for a high traffic area or those looking to add warmth to a room.
