Patch-worked Ottoman Textile - 17" x 17"

Regular price $150.00 Sale

This pillowcase was made in the Ottoman Empire during the late 19th century or early 20th century.

At the turn of the 20th century, this piece was pieced together from a variety of older embroideries to create a pillowcase front. As embroideries became worn it was a common practice to separate the most intact parts and piece them together into new patch-worked items. The patched piece here may have been salvaged all from one larger cloth. Fragments of various floral motifs can be found in patinated blues, greens, and pinks amongst brown and ivory.

In very good condition, has been patch-worked from a larger piece.
