This Taznakht rug was woven south of the High Atlas mountains of Morocco during the middle of the 20th century.

This lively rug features a field of three compartments each with a central latch-hooked diamond motif. The center compartment is bright ivory and filled with small protection symbols. The top and bottom compartments feature a more sparse design around a stepped diamond on a navy ground. Of note in the top and bottom compartments are the depiction of oil or "genie" lamps. These are representative of enlightenment either spiritually or intellectually. Each compartment is encapsulated by interlocking triangles full vegetation and the whole is framed by two additional borders and a thin block of saffron toned wool in the kilim ends as well as the substantial selvedge. The saffron tone is a classic tone used throughout the region and can be seen in the wefts as well as the the quadruple sides selvedge which provide both extra protection and aesthetic balance.

Very good condition, some places pile is worn down to foundation, fraying on bottom and top kilim ends.
