Heriz rug from Northwest Iran, handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This classic Heriz features a geometric central medallion on rich saturated tones and meaty wool. A brick-red field is complemented by deep navy, french blue, sage, and coral tones with brass and ivory accents. The four ivory cornices brighten the rug and a wonderful undulating abrash adds layers to the composition. The main border features an alternating rosette and serrated leaf design.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile with a sturdy handle.
