Farahan Sarouk rug handwoven during the late 19th century.

This stunning rug is composed of a brick central medallion with an inky black center flanked by double teardrop medallions on an ivory ground. Very dainty and fine curvilinear tendrils and floral vines make up the overall design, and the whole is framed by four scalloped cornices. Each cornice has an extra curl which allows the elegantly drawn field to also be read as a more primitive animal pelt pattern. The border is composed of alternating palmettes which are not reconciled at the corners.

In very good condition, with even wear throughout and some light color run. The pile is low, with a light but dense handle
