This Malayer rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century in Western Iran.
This stunning rug features an ornate medallion with a pistachio green central motif on a soft and elegant red ground. The same pale red is also utilized in the ground of the cornices and main border which magnifies the secondary tones of blue, yellow, aubergine, and pistachio and gives the piece a subtle sophistication. The biggest departure can be found in the navy ground of the field which breaks up the composition nicely.
In very good condition, with very little wear, all four sides have been reinforced for longevity. The pile is low, with a hefty handle.
