Vintage cheerful and colorful mirror-work embroidery from Gujarat in Western India. More specifically it was woven by the Rabari community in the Kutch region of Gujarat.
A dharaniya is wall hanging used for special occasions in this region of India. This particular dharaniya features a free-hand design of trees, birds and rosettes, embroidered in a rainbow of colors alongside lovely mirror-work. We find yellows, oranges, greens, and pinks, on a soft ivory ground. The border is black with mirror-work embroidery resembling suns.
