This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the 19th century.
Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a scene called Raas Leela, which loosely translates to "Dance of Divine Love". It is a traditional story of Krishna in Hindu scripture. Krishna is depicted atop a lotus with a flute in hand with Radha, his chief consort to his left upon another lotus flower. It is embroidered in navy and red thread with a simple border on recycled cotton cloth.
In very good condition for its age with some light wear to threads and cotton with very minimal staining.
