This dhurrie was handwoven in Northern India during the early 20th century.
It features a simple yet striking design of a prayer rug or "janamaz" format in a strong contrast of indigo, madder and undyed cotton. The directional nature and large color blocks give it a very architectural feel. It was woven with niche facing horizontally and most likely was one of many similar janamaz made on the same loom.
In good condition, some distortion, wrinkling and crease wear. Also a small stain near the lower middle.
