Heriz rug from Northwest Iran, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.
This rug features the class Heriz design of a graphic geometric central medallion. The navy medallion is flanked by two lovely teardrop medallions on a brickfield and surrounded by four ivory cornices. The cornices flow into one other on the top and bottom giving the field an elegant almond shape. Appealing touches of jade, coral, wheat, and indigo build interest and elevate the composition. The main border is composed of a reciprocating palmette on a navy ground which expertly balances the strength of the central medallion.
In excellent condition for its age. Low pile with a sturdy handle.
