small Turkmen rug with allover gul design in red blue and ivory colorway

Antique Small Turkmen Rug - 2'8 x 3'4

Regular price $150.00 Sale

This Turkmen rug was woven by the Tekke people of Central Asia during the beginning of the 20th century.

It features the traditional allover gül pattern, composed of five rows of three güls each in this instance. Brick red is the dominant color, and it appears to be a combination of madder red and an early synthetic red dye-stuff. A deep indigo blue and ivory are used for the details. Note the dainty skirt borders completing the design.

In fair condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Worn area at the top as pictured. Edges have been reinforced for longevity.
