This Bagh Phulkari was embroidered in East Punjab (Pakistan) during the Mid-20th century.

Phulkari is a tradition of folk embroidery from the Punjab region that encompasses both India and Pakistan. It is composed of colorful silken thread atop rough cotton cloth. Bagh is a particular type of Phulkari where the silk embroidery thread completely covers the cotton making the base barely visible. Baghs were often intended to be worn for special events like weddings.

This bagh was crafted in three strips and features various diamonds on a shimmering field of golden silk. At first glance, the patterning and color seem uniform but there is a subtle shift in the tone and scale with some moments where completely distinct patterns and tones are employed. Framed by a top and bottom skirt which showcases the red cotton cloth the piece is embroidered on as well as adds small touches of green to the composition. Baghs comprised primarily of this golden hue are most often associated with East Punjab in Pakistan.
