This Peking Chinese rug was handwoven in Eastern China during the turn of the 20th century.
This classic peking rug features a central pagoda with auspicious symbols of radishes and prunus branches woven in ivory, beige, browns and pinks on the deep indigo field. The softer blue border features floral motifs which grow into the main field.
Peking rugs were created for the western market and the palette was utilized to emulate the look of blue and white Chinese porcelain which was extremely popular during the late 19th century.
In good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Some pile wear in specific areas where foundation shows but is still intact. Low pile, with a soft handle.
