This Khamseh rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century (1925-1950) in Southern Iran. It features three connected diamonds running along the length of the rug in poppy red atop a dark indigo field. Covering most of the ground is an intricate mix of symbols including a variety of birds and rosettes in a wide range of color. An ivory border around the diamonds and around the edge of the rug helps to brighten the piece. Wear is consistent with age.
