Antique Kurdish runner, handwoven in NW Iran during the first quarter of the 20th century.This stunning rug features an allover boteh design in deep yet bright red, on an olive brown field. A section of the field is inky blue, which was the original field color. Depending on the dye process, dyes will fade in different ways; in this case, the blue faded to an olive brown that is rich and unusual. Boteh, or paisley, are one of the oldest and most common symbols, usually representing fertility. The geometric border is composed of geometric shapes and symbols in a multitude of colors: ivories, light blues, and yellows.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile, with a soft handle. Edges have been reinforced for prolonged longevity.
