This stunning Bakshaeesh was handwoven during the third quarter of the 19th century (1850-1875) in Northwest Persia.
It features an all over design of animated plantlife with flowering palmettes, large leaves and curling tendrils with an expanding motif and geometric design. It features a well balanced and perfectly patinated combination of blues, reds, golds and pinks on an ivory field. It has a main border of serrated leaves and rosettes on an indigo backdrop. The rare addition of a large amount of intricate Persian poetry is rendered in cartouches in the minor border (Please reach out for the translation) It was once larger and has been reduced in size many moons ago but is in good condition.
