Handwoven Shahsavan rug handwoven during the mid-1800s in NW Iran.
This rug features a geometric design of two columns composed of medallions. The main border is composed of a classic leaf and calyx design, this one is particularly charming. The minor border is composed of a meander with eight-pointed stars and leaves. The color palette is composed of 100% natural dyes, mainly madder red and indigo blue.
In worn condition commensurate with its considerable age. Low pile, some areas are worn through to the foundation with holes. Airy yet heavy handle.
