This Afshar rug was woven in South Iran during the turn of the 20th century. It features classic Afshar pattering but is more finely woven example with original soumak ends and candy cane selvedging intact. The color palette is classic but rendered more vividly that most in this example. In the center are three small ivory medallions on a deep navy field surrounded by glowing red field which itself lays upon a final field of cobalt. Small symbols and figures fill the negative space, making this a very visually interesting rug. The condition is good, with even wear throughout, consistent with the age. Low pile.
