Hamadan rug with thick low pile and jewel tones, with geometric design

Small Malayer Rug - 2'5 x 4'2

Regular price $450.00 Sale

This Malayer Rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century in Western Iran.

It is woven with soft shiny wool and dyed in jewel-toned reds and blues and features a central cartouche filled with shapes and symbols atop a trellis with simple blossoms. The main border is composed of an unusual geometric design, as are the minor borders with their subtle meander.  Notice the small figures in the scalloped cornices at the top and bottom.

In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is low and densely woven, with a hefty handle.
