Meshkabad Mahal handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century in Western Iran.

This rug is composed of a large-scale pattern on a brick-red field. The design is a variation on the Herati pattern one of the most common Persian rug designs. We find elements like mahi, which directly translates to 'fish' although the motif has been interpreted in multiple ways, from fish to leaves; and palmettes. The main border is also composed of a palmette motif, on an inky-blue ground. This particular design is typical of Meshkabad Mahal rugs in particular. Mahal rugs employed natural dyes for longer than other weaving centers in the region, and this is particularly evident in this rug, where the colors shine brightly and sure to age beautifully.

In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is thick but low, with a dense but malleable handle. Well suite for a high traffic area or those looking to add warmth to a room.
