This rug was handwoven in the Hamadan region of Western Iran during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It is composed of a rusty orange central medallion on an inky blue ground. The general geometric pattern is reminiscent of the classic Herati design, although this one is more idiosyncratic and playful. The main border is a plain alternating geometric design, while the minor borders are composed of dainty floral patterning.
In good condition, with some wear, consistent with age. Pile is low, with a sturdy handle. Edges have been reinforced for longevity.
