The floral vocabulary closely recalls the celebrated \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eKuba “blossom” rugs\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, whose fields are similarly animated by large, colorful palmettes and rosettes arranged against dark grounds. Here, however, that familiar Kuba decorative language is translated into the crisp, graphic structure of Soumak weaving rather than knotted pile.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSoumak is a distinctive flatweave technique in which colored wefts are wrapped around the warps, creating a durable textile with a finely articulated, slightly raised surface.
