Bidjar wagireh, or rug sample, handwoven in NW Iran during the second quarter of the 20th century.
A wagireh is a sampler rug that illustrates the rug pattern for the weaver (much like a cartoon for a mural). The size of the wagireh will depend on the size of the pattern and how it repeats. This particular one shows the borders are the top and the repeat unit of the pattern below, showing a floral design for all elements. The colors are in within the typical Bidjar shades of camels, indigo blues, and madder pinks and reds.
Samplers like this rarely come on the market, so we are thrilled to present this stunning example.
In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Densely woven with a low pile and sturdy handle.
