This Lavar Kerman rug was handwoven during the late 19th century in Central Iran.

It features an intricate and well-composed central medallion with a curvilinear floral design and scalloped cornices of cool ivory field. Two teardrop medallions drip into an ivory field which is sparsely decorated with cheerful standalone rosettes. The cornices are distinct but have a continuous feel with the large central medallion, each composed of blossoming vines twisting and turning on a Bordeaux backdrop. Throughout the rug, multiple variations of jewel-toned blues and greens are complemented by tones of copper and wheat and add excitement to this well-executed and very finely woven work of art. The whole is framed by a thin ivory border of alternating rosettes.

In very good condition for its considerable age and fineness. It has a couple of small tears. Should be handled with care when unrolling and rolling due to the fineness of its weave. But once flat it is very sturdy and hard-wearing.
