This Oushak was handwoven during the late 19th century in Western Anatolia.
Oushak rugs of this period were often woven with angora wool, making them exceptionally soft and lustrous. This particular rug is no exception and utilizes angora wool to render an allover medallion design on a pale orange field with accents of burnt orange, yellow, ivory, brown, and an exceptional slate blue. Wonderfully worn over the last hundred-plus years exposing glowing pinkish-red wefts while leaving a ghost of the original pattern giving the rug a real aura and creating a soft but striking composition.
In good condition, with significant wear throughout but the foundation and edges have been reinforced providing structural integrity without hiding its unique narrative. The pile is low, the handle is soft and loose.
