An early 20th century Dolpo blanket woven from handspun wool in the high Himalayan region of northwestern Nepal. Constructed from joined panels, the surface carries a quiet patchwork rhythm created by subtle shifts in tone and the intentional rotation of narrow striped bands.

The palette is grounded and earthy with warm browns enlivened by muted bands of madder red, indigo, slate blue, and soft celadon. The wool is dense yet pliable, with visible flecking that speaks to local sheep breeds and traditional spinning methods. Gentle abrash and uneven striping lend the textile a lived-in warmth rather than strict symmetry.

Blankets like this were essential domestic textiles in Tibetan households, used for warmth, bedding, and interior partitioning. Today, they read as understated compositions of color and structure, deeply tactile and quietly modern in sensibility. A compelling example of Himalayan weaving where utility, material intelligence, and visual restraint come together naturally.
