This Turkmen rug was handwoven in Central Asia during the middle of the 20th century by the Tekke people
This Tekke rug is composed of a repeat design of the classic Tekke guls on a rich red ground. Finely woven for type with over thirty guls are tightly packed into three columns. Well contrasted secondary tones of navy, orange, white, yellow, and magenta breathe life into the rug. Fine weaving and contrast are used to great effect adding dimensionality to details like the bent ribbon minor borders. The magenta wool appears to have run out near the bottom of the rug and is replaced with a brighter white adding a unique touch. The top and bottom are both finished with skirt borders.
In very good condition, sides have been reinforced for longevity with some light color run. Low pile with a dense, floppy handle.
