Vintage Hand Embroidered Afghani Pakistani Hazara Prayer Cloth with bright orange green and red colored stars and hands

Vintage Hazara Prayer Cloth - 12" x 12"

Regular price $125.00 Sale

Vintage Hazara prayer cloth, hand-embroidered in Central Afghanistan.

The Hazara handkerchiefs are embroidered by hand by women in Central Afghanistan, using satin and surface satin stitches in bright and bold colors. Some of the cloths have hands, which represent the hands of Hazarat Abbas, a Shi'a martyr killed in the battle of Karbala in 681 AD, and after whom these kerchiefs are named.

This cloth has a central design composed of eight-pointed stars. Each star-point has a hand, while the borders are based on triangle shapes. The color palette contains purple, yellow, neon orange, green, and red, with black detailing throughout.

In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Light handle, consistent with handkerchief weight.
