This Baluch rug was handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century in Afghanistan.
It features a design of rosette or burr-filled diamonds in a lattice format. Tones of madder red, navy, peachy pink, and vibrant pops of ivory provide nice contrast and visual interest. Finished with multiple columns of selvedge along the sides and finely woven brocaded capping the top and bottom with some metal wrapped thread added. A well-balanced and visually intriguing piece. Given the size and the patterning, it was likely intended as a sofreh.
In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile, with a loose handle. Some fraying to selvedge (as pictured)
