This Art Deco rug was handwoven in Tientsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century. 

This Deco rug features a central dragon surrounded by additional dragons in each of it's four corners all atop an open golden yellow ground framed by a thick unadorned navy border. The scaly and serpentine dragons come in a variety of tones and are each surrounded by colorful cloudbands which emphasize that they are in flight. In China the dragon is often depicted winglessly flying through clouds. I

This Ningxia rug was handwoven in China during the first quarter of the 20th century.

The main design is composed of various porcelain vases filled with fruit and plants such as cherry blossoms on wooden stands.This red tone is very auspicious and often associated with prosperity. It is framed by a thin blue border that forms an endless knot symbol at each corner.

Ningxia Rug circa 1800 composed of a central mandala flanked by four smaller medallions over an intricate diamond lattice repeat. With a classic Ningxia palette that includes two shades of blue, brown, ivory, mauve and a desirable imperial yellow ground. The main border design features floral motifs on a mauve ground. The inner minor borders features a Greek key motif and the outer perimeter border features bands of both blue tones.

This saddle blanket was woven in Tibet at the turn of the 20th century.  This rugs are known as a Makden and were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. This piece has been rendered in a beautiful butterfly format. It features two mirror image halves with floral forms growing out of stylized rocks on a vibrant orange ground.

This saddle blanket was woven in Tibet at the turn of the 20th century.  This rugs are known as a Makden and were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. This piece has been woven in two pieces and attached with cotton fabric. Two leather pieces have been woven in to attach the blanket to the animal. Each half features a mandala filled with four bats on an orange ground and a lively blue cloud motif where the halves interface.. The outer border features cloud-bands and auspicious symbols.

Makden were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. Each half features a central lotus with mountains symbolic or the terrestrial and clouds symbolic of the celestial. Each side features one small stupa motif which represents the nature of reality or the Dharma. cloudbands which are seen either as shooting rain or rays of lights in all directions. This silk rug was handwoven during the 3rd quarter of the 20th century in Tianjin, China.It features a central medallion of delicate ivory flowers surrounded by a floral and serrated leaf fretwork in mutilple blues, pinks, red and green on a yellow ground. The whole is framed by a border of blossoming vines on a copper ground. Nicely finished with golden fringes adding further distinction.
