The red and black threads were likely harvested and reused from old clothing.  A mixed border of local fish (Ilish) on the vertical and birds (Doyel) on the horizontal frame the whole. Look closely to notice two small birds in one cornice.

This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the late 19th century.

Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a central floral mandala with vegetal forms in each cornice. It has a limited palette of various red and black threads on plain white cotton ground. The red and black threads were likely harvested and reused from old clothing.  A mixed border of local fish (Ilish) on the vertical and birds (Doyel) on the horizontal frame the whole. Look closely to notice two small birds in one cornice. 

In very good condition with some light color run and a cotton fabric backing.
