This Marasali rug was woven in the Eastern Caucasus during the early 20th century.
It features all over design of rows of "flaming" botehs oriented on the diagonal. The botehs are outline in glowing shades of ivory, red , turquoise and seafoam that contrast well against a navy ground. The spacing around the edge of the field is filled with various protection symbols and flora and fauna. Nicely framed by main border of interlocking "S" motifs in navy and red on an ivory ground border that brightens the composition and draws the eye to the ivory highlights in the field.
In very good condition. the corners have been professionally rewoven.
