Pre 1967 Ramallah Palestinian Thobe - 4'1 x 4'8

Regular price $950.00 Sale

A bold and finely worked Palestinian thobe from the Ramallah–al-Bireh region, distinguished by its saturated red embroidery set against a dark ground and its highly structured, architectural composition.

Dense geometric embroidery covers the skirt, sleeves, and shoulders in tightly organized grids of stepped squares, lozenges, and subdivided diamonds. Vertical embroidered panels frame the body, while the chest features a strong triangular yoke above three square motifs, a characteristic layout associated with Ramallah-area thobes. Serrated borders and precise spacing emphasize symmetry and visual weight.

Thobes from the Ramallah and al-Bireh region are among the most iconic expressions of Palestinian dress, historically associated with dowries and major life events. The density, precision, and scale of the embroidery reflect both technical mastery and the wearer’s social standing, while clearly signaling village identity.

In very good condition with wear consistent with age, including softening of the ground fabric and localized repairs. The embroidery remains largely intact with strong color presence.
