This pictorial; rug was handwoven in China during the second quarter of the 20th century.   It features a rendering of the Eight Immortals sitting atop cloudbands and amongst vegetation. These famous figures are signs of prosperity and longevity and can be represented in many different manners and often including deities or attendants as seen here. The Each immortal holds an object to identify themselves such as a flute (Han Xiangzi) or a lotus flower (He Xiangu).

This Gabbeh rug was handwoven in Southern Iran during the 20th century.  It features is a lion holding a saber in front of the sun which the classic national symbol of Iran. Following the Islamic revolution in Iran, this symbol was replaced on the national flag. Here the lion is rendered in orange with a full mane against a red background which has faded through 2/3 of the rug leaving the remaining third more saturated. A mohawk top white sun peeks over it's back.
