This Tabriz rug may have been handwoven in the workshop of master weaver Hajji Jalili during the late 19th century.
It features a view of a building in perspective with a desirable burnt orange ground that is highly characteristic of Hadji Jalili weaving. The building is constructed of blue and beige bricks with columns and domed roofs with many flags flapping above. In the foreground there is a water garden with two large fish. An abstract lantern hangs with floral characteristics and almost appear likes human figure. Wonderful tones of orange and cornflower blue have patinated in a smooth and nuanced fashion celebrating the rug's age. A real collector's piece.
The pile is low and finely woven, with a delicate handle. In very good condition, with some areas of professional restoration. Edges have been reinforced for longevity.
