Antique NE USA Pictorial Hook Rug - 2'4 x 3'3

Regular price $475.00 Sale

Pictorial hook rug from the Northeast United States, crafted in the first quarter of the 20th century.

This pictorial hook rug features two childlike figures in a pastoral setting under a rainbow. The girl is wearing a pink shepherdess-like outfit with hoop skirt, and the boy is wearing a green suit. They are both standing underneath a blue umbrella. They are standing in a field with wind-blown grass and flowers, with a rainbow in the sky above them. The overall quality of the craftsmanship is outstanding, notable especially in the stippling and color gradient of the rainbow, umbrella, and clothing. The person who hooked this was clearly an expert.

It is uncommon to have the burlap structure intact around the edges, making this piece even more distinct. The writing at the top above the design reads: "#187 'The Rainbow' 24" x 3.5 1/2" by Pearl" before it becomes illegible.

In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Combination of hooked pile and burlap, with a nice and airy handle.
