Antique Lori Saddlebag - 1'11 x 3'3

Antique Lori Saddlebag - 1'11 x 3'3

Regular price $650.00 Sale

This double saddlebag or "Khorjin" was handwoven by the Lori people during the early 20th century.

Each bag face has a dense soumak pile with a striped flatwoven back. Braided loops of goat hair at the top of both bags' faces act as clasps. The designs of multi diagonal diamonds contain protection symbols or amulets atop a navy field. It is framed by a border that alternates between diamonds on the vertical and hourglass figures on the horizontal. The color palette is limited to primary colors of reds, yellows, and blues with outlining and details rendered in white cotton. The kilim backs are woven in mesmerizing wavy blue and stripes and the bottom of each bag has a woven pile where the kilim transitions to soumak adding both utility and flare.

In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age.
