Antique Shahsavan Mafrash Fragment - 1’4 x 1'4

Regular price $750.00 Sale

This Mafrash fragment was handwoven by the Shahsavan during the late 19th century.

A Mafrash is a three-dimensional "box" that nomads made to store bedding in their tents, and for use as cargo bags while traveling. This piece is a fragment of one of the panels. This section features a central concentric latch hooked device in blues, green, and ivory on a red ground and flanked by strong and distinctive borders on top and bottom. Each segment features two minor borders of smooth "S" scrolls that sandwich a main border of more serpentine sawtooth "S"s. The main borders flow in opposite directions adding movement and interest. A great wall or learning piece!

In very good condition, fragment sides are unfinished.
