This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the late 19th century.

Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features an off-center mandala with reciprocal panels on top and bottom. The central mandala is squished to one side by three elephants and one horse form. The top and bottom panels both feature a row of plant forms that blossom into birds. Soft red, blue, and yellow on a soft pink ground. 

In very good condition, the base cotton cloth is light pink either intentionally dyed or the result of a color run of the underlying fabric.
