The small textile was embroidered by the Lakai people in Northern Afghanistan during the 20th century.
It features a patchwork of red squares embroidered with lively abstracted floral forms in ivory, yellow orange, and light and in vibrant tones of yellow, orange, light, and dark purple. The whole is framed by remnants of colorful cross-stitch bands. A nice piece that showcases the practice of recycling and reuse. The bands as well as the red squares have been reconfigured from either a larger piece or potentially even multiple pieces.
In good condition. Small tears in the fabric and staining on the back
