This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the early 20th century.
Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a vibrant central lotus mandala on a colorful backdrop of abstracted forms and pinwheels. The pattern flares out from the center in a series of concentric squares with concave corners that make room for pinwheels on the diagonal. Great visual movement and energy appear to emanate outwards like a firework exploding in slow motion.
In very good condition with small areas of old folk repairs and some light staining.
