Antique pastel Kantha featuring a central mandala with pinwheels at its focal point as well as its four flanks. The patterning is a variation of different abstracted forms consistent in form as well as color with a limited palette of navy and red faded to soft pink on a white cotton ground. The consistency is slightly thrown by some moments where the original red has not faded packing a small punch. The red moments in combination with the pinwheels give this piece a hypnotic effect.

This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the late 19th century.

Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a central mandala with pinwheels at its focal point as well as its four flanks.
