This coptic textile was woven in Egypt in the 6th century AD near the end of classical antiquity.
It features a male figure in motion with bent legs and face in profile. He wears classical clothing of the era and is surrounded by a variety of zoomorphic devices or protection symbols. The composition is rendered in hues of deep maroon and ivory and framed by a curved border of trefoils.
In very good condition considering its significant age. It has some discoloration towards the bottom right (as pictured). The bottom edge is missing and the weaving exposed. The fragment has been mounted to a thin board to better display and secure the piece.
