Erzurum kilim from Anatolia, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.
This unusual rug is composed of a complex geometric design . The field is divided in to four sections, each with a different background color and colorway for the geometric design. A rosette skirt border on top and bottom frames the design. This is followed by a geometric all-around border, followed by another rosette border. The rosette motif is unusual, as it is more often employed for pile rugs than in kilims. Notice the bottom skirt border, a lovely wave design. The color palette employs a rainbow of colors, but the elegance of the design never makes the colors overwhelming.
In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Note one side is brighter than the other. Flatwoven, with a light and airy handle. This rug is a true masterpiece of the form.
